Back-to-School Success

Highlands celebrated the start of a new school year on Saturday and the turnout was huge with over 1,100 people in attendance from all walks of life.

Community members and organizations from all over came in support of our students and school.

Treat’em Like a King Foundation provided 350 backpacks full of school supplies, which were all given out to children in need. This backpack giveaway was facilitated by our very own Community Liaison Harold Pressley, a former NBA basketball player, who founded Treat’em Like a King in 1996.

Chick-fil-A provided 1,100 lunches, which went quickly, and Highlands raffled off over $700 in gift cards, one bicycle, and 10 desktop computers. In addition, bounce houses, music, and balloon art was enjoyed by all.

Other organizations in attendance which offered information and support to the community were the Grant High School Alumni Association, the Community Mothers of 95838, the Sacramento Public Library, and the Black Child Legacy Campaign.

Here are several photos of the wonderful day!
