Highlands Students Give Back

Last Friday, Highlands students participated in their first ever Service Learning Day. This day was focused on giving back to our community through some kind of community service.

Over 50 students decided to participate in the clean up of Gardenland Park right here in North Highlands, which was put on by the City of Sacramento Parks & Recreation.

A big thank you to Richard Perez, from the City of Sacramento, for organizing and managing this clean up. Also, thank you to those students who decided to participate.

As Richard said, it is often difficult for the city to find participants to clean up parks in our school’s neighborhood.

“If we have a clean up of Land Park, we have more volunteers than we can handle and we have to turn people away,” Richard said. “But it is rare we get a group that wants to clean up in this area.”

That means we are special, Highlands family, but we already knew that.
