Highlands honored 56 graduates on January 25th at LifePointe Church of the Nazarene in Rio Linda. This was Highlands sixth graduating class to date and one of the largest we have seen yet.
As usual, the church was packed, with family and friends lining the walls, standing on their tippy toes to see their loved ones walk across the big stage.
Executive Director Murdock Smith commented on how each graduation is uniquely special.
“I shared with some of the graduates backstage tonight that it’s better every year, I get more nervous every year, and I get more proud that you all allow me to be a part of your journey every year,” he said.
Doc went on to thank every person in the audience for supporting our students and allowing us to become such an important part of their lives.
“With your permission and your patience you allow us to work with the people you love the most,” he said. “That you entrust us with your mothers, sometimes your grandmothers, aunts, uncles and friends, we take that seriously. You’ve entrusted us with their most precious treasure: their time. Their time away from you guys – and it’s easy to not do that.”
We were also honored with several student speakers who shared their journey with all of us. Stay tuned to see highlights about each speaker and what wisdom they shared with us that night.
