What’s New at Highlands?

August 13th marks the end of summer session for Highlands Community Charter School, and the beginning of many exciting things. Here are six things to look out for this month at Highlands:

Brand New Semi Truck!: The High School Completion and Truck Driving Career Technical Education programs have moved from the Mather Campus to Industrial Park at 8180 Industrial Parkway. With this move came a very exciting purchase which will benefit our students in the truck driving program immensely – a new semi truck. The experience students will be able to get with this new truck will better prepare them for their Class A License test, and Highlands is very happy to be able to provide them with such opportunity.
High School Completion Classes Offered at Night!: As an adult serving charter school, Highlands saw a need for classes offered in the evening since many parents must work during the day and decided to extend its High School Completion Classes at night to two campuses. So far, High School Completion at night is offered at 1333 Grand Avenue and 800 Todhunter Avenue. These classes run from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Student Success Center Moved!: The Student Success Center has moved from Building B at 1333 Grand Avenue to Building C2. You can also now reach the Transition Specialists at the Success Center by email through Career.Center@hccts.org. These specialists are available to help with job searches, resume building, government assistance paperwork, etc.
Laptops for Perfect Attendance!: The laptop giveaway will continue into the new year. Attend classes every day for a week to get your name entered into a raffle for a new laptop! This raffle resets each week – so every Monday is a fresh start. “Progress requires commitment – Commitment required attendance.”
Back-to-School Festival!: Highlands will be holding its third annual Back-to-School Festival in partnership with former NBA basketball player Harold Pressley’s Treat‘em Like a King (TLK) Foundation. The festival will be held on September 15th at the main campus (1333 Grand Avenue). Keep an eye out on social media for more details to follow!
Opportunity Fair!: Highlands will be piloting an Opportunity Fair at our St. Rose campus (5945 Franklin Boulevard). A member from each Career Technical Education Program that Highlands offers will be present, manning their own booth and sharing information about the opportunities available. This fair will take place in October, but again keep an eye out on social media for more details to follow!
